Thalavara, featuring Arjun Ashokan and Revathy Sarma in the lead roles, is now available on Prime Video. In a surprise move, Prime Video announced its release yesterday without any prior notification. The film from director Akhil Anilkumar tells the coming-of-age story of a youngster (Arjun) with a skin condition called vitiligo. Society mocks him for his physical appearance, making the young man deal with dwindling self-esteem. In spite of the challenges that come with the condition, he wants to become an actor in films.
The film originally hit theatres in August this year and opened to positive reviews from both audiences and critics alike. Most notably, Mamta Mohandas, an actor with the same condition as the film's protagonist, praised it in a social media post. The film marks the Malayalam debut of Revathy Sarma, who is known for the Tamil film August 16 1947. It also stars Devadarshini Chetan, Ashokan, Abhiram Radhakrishnan, Sarath Sabha, and Prashanth Murali, among others.
Akhil, known for his work in the Aishwarya Lekshmi starrer Archana 31 Not Out, directed the film from a story he wrote alongside Appu Aslam. In a recent interview with CE, Akhil said that he had a stronger command over the narrative in Thalavara as compared to his debut.
