Mammootty has completed the Hyderabad schedule of Patriot, filmmaker Mahesh Narayanan’s upcoming political espionage thriller, and returned to Chennai on Monday. The veteran actor, who recently announced his return to work after a brief hiatus, wrapped up his portions in the latest leg of the film’s shoot, which had commenced on October 1. The makers earlier confirmed that the team will next head to the United Kingdom for another leg beginning on October 15.

Produced by Anto Joseph along with C R Salim and Subhash Manuel, Patriot features an elite ensemble cast including Mohanlal, Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, Nayanthara, Darshana Rajendran, Revathy and Zarin Shihab. Cinematography is by Manush Nandan, best known for his work on the Bollywood films Dunki and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.

The upcoming film, which began production in Sri Lanka in November 2024 under the working title MMMN, was officially titled as Patriot with a teaser that showcased a tense, high-stakes narrative centred on power, surveillance and state control. The teaser drew strong reactions from audiences for its scale and the long-awaited reunion of Mamootty and Mohanlal, the two icons of Malayalam cinema, after more than a decade. The makers plan to wrap filming by mid-December, with a Vishu 2026 release being targeted.

Mammootty’s return to the sets earlier this month had been met with widespread enthusiasm, following months of speculation about his health.
