Ahead of its release on May 23, the trailer of the Dhyan Sreenivasan-starrer Detective Ujjawalan was unveiled by the makers on Tuesday. The film is written and directed by debutants Indraneel Gopeekrishnan and Rahul G.

The trailer opens with a police officer narrating how the village of Plaachikkaavu stands as a symbol of goodness and happiness, citing the low crime rate at the local station. This narration is intercut with visuals that suggest something far more sinister is afoot, ultimately culminating in the haunting image of a corpse hanging from the branch of a large tree. We are then introduced to a menacing figure, ominously titled 'The Bogeyman', brutally killing someone. Enter Ujjwalan (Dhyan), a local amateur sleuth determined to solve the murder. A special investigation team also arrives in the village to crack the case. What follows are glimpses of the humorous and chaotic adventures of Ujjwalan and the investigation team as they attempt to uncover the killer. The film promises an intriguing murder mystery laced with elements of comedy and suspense.

Detective Ujjawalan also features Siju Wilson, Rony David Raj, Kottayam Nazeer, Seema G Nair, Kalabhavan Navas, and Nirmal Palazhi in key roles. Popular social media personalities Ameen, Nihal Nizam, Nibraz Noushad, and Shahubas will make their big-screen debuts. The film's technical team includes cinematographers Prem Akkattu and Sraiyanti, editor Chaman Chacko, and composer Rzee. It is produced by Sophia Paul under the banner of Weekend Blockbusters.

Detective Ujjawalan serves as the second instalment in the Weekend Cinematic Universe (WCU), which began with Minnal Murali in 2021. The universe also includes Jambi, an upcoming zombie film directed by George Kora.
