Malayalam film and television actor Vishnu Prasad passed away in the early hours of Friday at a private hospital in Kochi. He was 49. Vishnu had been undergoing treatment for liver cirrhosis for several months and was awaiting a liver transplant. Despite efforts by his family and the Association of Malayalam Television Artists (AMTA) to raise funds for the procedure, his condition deteriorated on Thursday night.

His co-star and friend Kishore Sathya confirmed the news on social media, expressing condolences and acknowledging the actor’s long health struggle. Known for his portrayals of antagonists, Vishnu made a mark in both cinema and television. His film credits include Kaasi, Kaiyethum Doorathu, Runway, Mambazhakkalam, Lokanathan IAS, Lion, and Ben Johnson. He also played significant roles in numerous television serials.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Abhirami and Ananika. One of his daughters had volunteered to donate part of her liver, but the family was unable to secure the Rs 30 lakh needed for the transplant in time. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family shortly.
