Lyricist Mankombu Gopalakrishnan has passed away earlier this Monday in Kochi. He was under treatment at Kochi's Medical Trust Hospital after experiencing a heart attack the other day.

A veteran in the field with more than 700 songs in about 200 Malayalam films to his credit, Gopalakrishnan's popular works include 'Ilam Manjin Kulirumay' from Ninnistham Ennishtam, 'Aashaadha Maasam' from Yudhabhoomi, and 'Nadan Pattinte Madiseela' from Babumon.

Gopalakrishnan is also known for his contributions to film stories and screenplays. Besides his work in screenplays for Malayalam films, Gopalakrishnan wrote the lyrics and dialogues for popular other language films that also released in Malayalam. Some of his non-Malayalam credits are Baahubali, Animal, and RRR.
