Lucifer, Mohanlal's political action thriller helmed by Prithviraj Sukumaran in his directorial debut, is set to return to theatres on March 20. The re-release comes a week ahead of the release of its second instalment L2: Empuraan, scheduled for March 27. On Sunday, the makers also unveiled a new trailer, highlighting key moments from the first instalment, which released originally in 2019.

Scripted by Murali Gopy, Lucifer revolves around a high-stakes political power struggle following the death of Kerala’s Chief Minister. As various factions fight for control, Stephen Nedumpally (Mohanlal), a key but enigmatic figure, emerges as a formidable force. His conflict with the corrupt and power-hungry Bobby (Vivek Oberoi) forms the crux of the story. It also featured Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Indrajith Sukumaran, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Baiju Santhosh and Saikumar in prominent roles.

The film marked the beginning of a planned trilogy and became a massive success, emerging as one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films. It was praised for its gripping screenplay, strong performances and large-scale action sequences.
