The uncertainty surrounding the Mohanlal-starrer L2: Empuraan, one of Malayalam cinema’s biggest productions, has finally been resolved. After weeks of speculation regarding its release, the makers confirmed via social media that the film will hit theatres worldwide on March 27 as planned. On Saturday, they announced that Sree Gokulam Movies had joined the project as a production partner, following reports of Lyca Productions' potential withdrawal due to financial disputes. Adding to the excitement, the makers revealed on Sunday that its first screening will commence early in the morning at 6:00 AM IST, with shows worldwide starting simultaneously in their respective time zones.

Sharing his enthusiasm for Sree Gokulam Movies joining L2: Empuraan, director Prithviraj Sukumaran stated, "Team #L2E #Empuraan is delighted to announce our association with the trail-blazing market leaders Gokulam Movies to bring this magnum opus to the screens. A special thanks to Shri Gokulam Gopalan for showing immense faith and confidence in our team and the film we have created." Notably, Prithviraj, Mohanlal and co-producer Antony Perumbavoor of Aashirvad Cinemas did not tag or acknowledge Lyca Productions in the latest announcement.

The absence of promotional activity in recent weeks had raised concerns among fans about a possible postponement. Additionally, the entry of Sree Gokulam Movies has brought significant changes to the film’s production credits. Previously, the credits listed "Head of Lyca Productions – G K M Tamil Kumaran," with Suresh Balaje and George Pius as executive producers. The new poster, however, omits Tamil Kumaran’s name entirely. Instead, Suresh Balaje and George Pius are now credited as line producers.

V C Praveen and Baiju Gopalan have taken on the roles of co-producers, with Krishnamoorthy serving as the executive producer. All three are affiliated with Sree Gokulam Movies. While Lyca Productions and Subaskaran’s names remain on the new poster, these changes strongly indicate that Sree Gokulam Movies has effectively taken over the project. Further fuelling speculation, Lyca Productions has yet to acknowledge or share this latest development on its official social media channels. Lyca Productions had viewed the sequel to Lucifer as a key part of its Kerala expansion strategy, but the production house’s recent Tamil films have reportedly struggled at the box office.

L2: Empuraan, scripted by Murali Gopy, will see Mohanlal reprising his role as Khureshi-Ab'raam/Stephen Nedumbally. The film brings back returning cast members such as Prithviraj, Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier and Indrajith Sukumaran while also introducing new additions, including Abhimanyu Singh, Game of Thrones actor Jerome Flynn, British actor Andrea Tivadar, French actor Eriq Ebouaney and Salaar-fame Kaarthikeyaa Dev.
