The long-delayed Suresh Gopi-Anupama Parameswaran starrer JSK: Janaki V v/s State of Kerala is finally set to release worldwide on July 17, the makers announced on Sunday, after securing a fresh U/A 16+ certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film was previously slated to hit theatres on June 20.

The courtroom drama, in which actor-politician Suresh Gopi plays an advocate representing Anupama’s character, had been held up after the CBFC objected to the use of the name 'Janaki' for a rape survivor, citing its association with Goddess Sita and concerns over offending religious sentiments. CBFC initially recommended 96 cuts, but later agreed to clear the film if the producers changed the title and muted the name 'Janaki' in two scenes. After prolonged proceedings, the producers, Cosmos Entertainments, informed the Kerala High Court that they would adopt the suggested title change by replacing Janaki v/s State of Kerala with Janaki V v/s State of Kerala and make the agreed edits.

Written and directed by Pravin Narayanan, who previously helmed Ankarajyathe Jimmanmar, JSK also features Suresh Gopi’s younger son, Madhav Suresh, along with Shruti Ramachandran, Divya Pillai, Askar Ali, Baiju Santhosh, Kottayam Ramesh and Shoby Thilakan. The film's technical crew includes cinematographer Renadive, editor Samjith Mohamed, and composer Ghibran. It is produced by J Phanindra Kumar, with Sethuraman Nair Kankol serving as co-producer.
