The iconic Malayalam film Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha is set for a rerelease in 4K resolution with Dolby Atmos sound on February 7.The rerelease poster was unveiled on Sunday by its lead actor Mammootty along with his co-star Suresh Gopi and veteran actor Mohanlal.

Originally released in 1989, Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha is a retelling of the medieval ballad from North Malabar, focusing on the character of Chanthu Chekavar, portrayed by Mammootty. The film offers a sympathetic perspective on Chanthu, traditionally depicted as a traitor, presenting him instead as a misunderstood warrior. Directed by T Hariharan and scripted by MT Vasudevan Nair, it has an ensemble cast, including Suresh Gopi as Aromal Chekavar, Madhavi as Unniyarcha, and Balan K Nair as Valiya Kannappan Chekavar.

Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha's technical team includes K Ramachandra Babu as the cinematographer and M.S. Mani as the editor, with a musical score composed by Bombay Ravi. The film received critical acclaim, securing four National Film Awards, including Best Actor for Mammootty and Best Screenplay for MT Vasudevan Nair, as well as eight Kerala State Film Awards.
