Legendary singer P Jayachandran passed away on Thursday in Amala Hospital, Thrissur. The 80-year-old breathed his last after a prolonged battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Lalitha, and children Lakshmi and Dinanath. 

Jayachandran leaves behind him an illustrious six-decade career during which he sang around 16,000 songs in various languages. He has worked with several popular composers including G Devarajan, MS Baburaj, V Dakshinamoorthy, K Raghavan, MK Arjunan, MS Viswanathan, Ilaiyaraaja, AR Rahman, MM Keeravani, Vidyasagar, and M Jayachandran.

Fondly called 'Bhavagayakan', Jayachandran has won a National award, five Kerala State awards, and one Tamil Nadu state award. In 1997, the Tamil Nadu government also honoured him with the prestigious Kalaimamani award.

In 2020, Jayachandran was awarded the JC Daniel Award, the highest award in Malayalam cinema, for his outstanding contributions to Malayalam cinema.

Ever since news about Jayachandran's passing away broke, many, including celebs and common music lovers, have been pouring in their tributes for the legend.
