Actor Shine Tom Chacko and seven others were acquitted by the Ernakulam Additional Sessions Court in a case related to a suspected drug gathering in Kochi in January 2015. The court ruled in their favour after blood tests confirmed no cocaine use. Shine, along with four women models, was arrested following a police raid at an apartment in Jawahar Nagar, Kochi. Three others were accused of supplying 10 grams of cocaine. Shine and the women were jailed for two months before securing bail in March 2015.

The trial began in October 2018, with around 25 witnesses examined. However, the court found no conclusive evidence linking the accused to drug possession. Blood test reports ruled out cocaine use, and the prosecution failed to prove that the traces found in the apartment belonged to them. Shine and the others were present in court when they were acquitted of all charges.

Shine was last seen in the Mammootty-starrer Dominic and the Ladies' Purse. The Ishq actor's upcoming slate includes Mohanlal's L2: Empuraan, slated for March 27 release, Mammootty's Bazooka, scheduled to hit theatres on April 10, Soothravakyam, alongside Vincy Aloshious and Deepak Parambol, and Meesha. In Tamil, he is part of Ajith's upcoming film, Good Bad Ugly, which is lined up to hit screens on April 10.
