Director Dominic Arun has confirmed that he has begun scripting Lokah Chapter 2, following the extraordinary success of Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra. The filmmaker shared the update during a recent directors’ roundtable with The Hollywood Reporter India, where he reflected on the journey of the first film and the pressures that now come with its scale of success.
Speaking about returning to the writing process, Dominic said the response to Lokah was far beyond anything he had anticipated. “This huge success was something I never expected. I was just trying to make a film that I would enjoy watching,” he said, adding that the intention was to create moments associated with superhero cinema, but shaped entirely by his own taste and instincts.
With Lokah Chapter 1 setting new benchmarks at the box office, Dominic admitted that starting work on the sequel has been challenging. “There’s no formula to making a blockbuster. I’ve gone back to the basics and started writing again. It’s been difficult because now there’s a lot of pressure,” he said, confirming that he has completed a few initial scenes for the second chapter.
Released in August for Onam, Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra received widespread acclaim for its expansive world-building, performances and technical craft. The film, headlined by Kalyani Priyadarshan, quickly became a major talking point within film circles across the country. Strong word of mouth, combined with successful dubbed releases in Tamil and Telugu, propelled the film past the ₹300 crore mark, making it the first Malayalam film to achieve the feat.
Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra also featured Naslen and Sandy in prominent roles, with cameo appearances by Tovino Thomas and Dulquer Salmaan, while Mammootty made a striking impression through a voice role. Produced by Dulquer's Wayfarer Films, the film is the first instalment in a planned five-part franchise inspired by local myths and folklore.
The makers have already confirmed that Lokah Chapter 2 will be headlined by Tovino.
