The Kalyani Priyadarshan-Naslen starrer Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra has reportedly earned 300 crore from theatres worldwide. A few days ago, the film's makers released a poster, confirming it as the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time, a record previously held by L2: Empuraan. The latest reports say that it has become the first Malayalam film to gross 300 crore at the global box office. The Dominic Arun directorial revolves around a woman, named Chandra (Kalyani), who has preternatural powers and has lived across eons without ageing. However, when dark forces come to know about her powers, they threaten to disrupt the rather peaceful existence of both Chandra and those closely associated with her.
In our Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra movie review, Vivek Santhosh wrote, "For years, we have known that our folklore held endless potential, and it is exhilarating to see it finally tapped on such a grand scale. Lokah is not perfect, but it is bold, and it is exactly the kind of theatrical experience worth celebrating."
Earlier, the film's makers, Dulquer Salmaan's Wayfarer Films, announced their decision to delay its OTT release, owing to the massive demand for the film in theatres. According to Sacnilk, Lokah has grossed around 182 crore from theatres in India, with its Malayalam version alone earning about 120 crore.
