Actor Mammootty is known for his collaborations with new filmmakers, including debutants, a trend that has continued in the 2020s as well. After starring in Deeno Dennis' debut film Bazooka last year, the actor is back again working with a debutant. This time around, he plays the antagonist in director Jithin K Jose's new film Kalamkaval, also starring Vinayakan as the hero. The film has opened to positive reviews from critics and audiences. Subsequently, the latest film's production banner MammoottyKampany took to social media to recognise their actor and producer's role in bringing fresh talents to Malayalam cinema. "MammoottyKampany takes great pride in introducing a talented new filmmaker to Malayalam cinema," they wrote. The production banner added, "Watching Jithin receive so much love and appreciation already feels special. This Friday belongs to you. Let this be the start of a long and memorable journey. You deserve every success that comes your way. Thank you for giving us Kalamkaval."
While the latest Mammootty starrer marks his directorial debut, Jithin is not new to the process of writing a story for a film. He served as an assistant director on and is credited for the story of 2021's Kurup, starring Dulquer Salmaan in the lead role. Earlier today, Dulquer shared the Kalamkaval poster on his Instagram Stories.
The makers are yet to reveal any plot details about the film. It also stars Dies Irae fame Gibin Gopinath, Gayathri Arun, and Rajisha Vijayan, among others.
