Sumathi Valavu grosses 20 crore at global box office

The film is regarded as a commercial success, and even as it continues its theatrical run, its makers have announced a sequel

The makers of Sumathi Valavu revealed the other day that the film has grossed 20.25 crore at the global box office in the first ten days of its release. Director Vishnu Sasi Shankar's film, which hit theatres on August 1, follows the supernatural experiences of a set of individuals who go to the so-called haunted location Sumathi Valavu in Kerala. It stars Arjun Ashokan, Malavika Manoj, Balu Varghese, Sidharth Bharathan, and Saiju Kurup, among others.

Sumathi Valavu received mostly negative reviews from the critics. In CE's review of the film, Vivek Santhosh wrote that the film's "script leans too heavily on formula" and is devoid of the "comic rhythm and charm" of yesteryear comedies, such as Godfather and Meesha Madhavan.

Announcing the Sumathi Valavu box office collection news on social media, the makers shared a note of gratitude to the audience. In the post, they wrote, "The love and support the film is receiving from family audiences is the answer to all the questions," seemingly alluding to the negative criticism against it.

The Arjun Ashokan starrer is produced by Murali Kunnumpurath of the Waterman Films banner in association with Think Studios, as well as presented by Gokulam Gopalan's Sree Gokulam Movies. The horror-comedy film is regarded as a commercial success, and even as it continues its theatrical run, its makers have announced a sequel. Meanwhile, Arjun Ashokan will next be seen in Thalavara, which is slated to hit theatres this Friday.
