Rapper Vedan, already facing multiple controversies, is currently absconding after a rape case was filed against him by a young doctor. The police have registered a First Information Report under non-bailable sections, and an investigation is underway under the supervision of the Thrikkakara Assistant Commissioner of Police.
Vedan, best known for his anti-caste tracks and his comeback song 'Kuthanthram' from Manjummel Boys, has been untraceable since the complaint was registered. The police had planned to arrest him if he appeared at Olam Live, a music event scheduled at Kochi on August 10. Following these developments, organisers have postponed the show, stating that a new date will be announced later.
The complaint alleges that Vedan became acquainted with the survivor via Instagram four years ago and sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions across Kozhikode, Kochi, and Eloor. The woman claims she was drugged and assaulted and that Vedan later distanced himself from her after July 2023, refusing all contact. She stated this caused her significant emotional distress and submitted Google Pay transaction details as evidence of financial transfers made to him. The complainant also mentioned that she had included the names of mutual friends aware of the abuse in her statement. Her detailed deposition is expected to be recorded in court soon.
Vedan has denied all allegations, calling them part of a malicious attempt to damage his reputation. He has said he will pursue legal recourse and has approached the High Court seeking anticipatory bail. This is not the first time Vedan has faced such accusations. He was previously accused of sexual assault by multiple women, and his inclusion in the Calicut University syllabus had drawn criticism due to his legal controversies.
