Earlier, we reported that the Dhyan Sreenivasan starrer Detective Ujjwalan is likely to release in May. On Monday, the occasion of Vishu, the makers of the film confirmed that it will release in theatres on May 16. The movie from first-time filmmakers Indraneel Gopeekrishnan and Rahul G stars Dhyan as a detective named Ujjwalan who looks into a series of crimes in a village. Announcing the release date with a new poster, the makers wrote, "Unmask the truth, unravel the mystery, and join the chase. The masked figure awaits."

Detective Ujjwalan also stars Siju Wilson, Rony David Raj, Kottayam Nazeer, Seema G Nair, Kalabhavan Navas, and Nirmal Palazhi in prominent roles. It also marks the film debut of well-known social media personalities such as Ameen, Nihal Nizam, Nibraz Noushad, and Shahubas. On the technical front, it has cinematography by Prem Akkattu and Sraiyanti, edits by Chaman Chacko, and music by Rzee.

The Weekend Blockbusters banner of Sophia Paul is producing the film, the second instalment in the Weekend Cinematic Universe (WCU). The cinematic universe began in 2021 with Tovino Thomas and director Basil Joseph's Minnal Murali. Weekend Blockbusters' zombie film Jambi, helmed by George Kora, too, is part of the universe.
