Earlier, we reported about filmmaker Ranjith's resignation from the position of the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy chairperson following sexual harassment allegations against him. Now, Prem Kumar has been appointed to the position on a temporary basis. It is the first occasion where a non-filmmaker has occupied the position. Prem Kumar most recently served as its vice chairperson, after his appointment in 2022.

The academy first thought about choosing Shaji N Karun for the position, but the WCC asked for the appointment of Beena Paul. Considering the different views, Prem Kumar has been finalised for the role for the time being. As the academy's chairman, the actor has important things to manage, including the distribution of the Kerala State Film Awards, the Kerala International Film Festival, and the cinema conclave.

On the film front, he was most recently seen in CID Ramachandran Retd. SI.
