Director Amal Neerad's Bougainvillea has been censored with an U/A certificate ahead of its release on October 17. The film marks the comeback of actor Jyothirmayi, who is also the director's wife. She headlines the film along with Kunchacko Boban. Others in the primary cast include Fahadh Faasil, Sharaf U Dheen, Veena Nandakumar, and Srinda. The film's recently-released trailer hinted at a psychological thriller, with the director's signature touch coming across quite evidently.

Bougainvillea is jointly scripted by novelist Lajo Jose and Amal, with additional dialogues by R J Murugan, known for his contributions to Amal's previous directorial, Bheeshma Parvam. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the upcoming film is an adaptation of Lajo's crime thriller novel Ruthinte Lokam.

On the technical front, Amal Neerad has retained his core team from Bheeshma Parvam. It includes cinematographer Anend C Chandran, editor Vivek Harshan, and composer Sushin Shyam. The film is bankrolled by Jyothirmayi and Kunchacko Boban under the banners of Amal Neerad Productions and Udaya Pictures, respectively.
