In a recent interview with the YouTube channel Connect Cine, Academy Award and Grammy-winning composer AR Rahman addressed the disqualification of the soundtrack for Blessy's Aadujeevitham (The Goat Life) from the Grammy Awards. He clarified that the soundtrack for the film, headlined by Prithviraj Sukumaran, was one minute short of the required length for eligibility. "I did Goat Life for Blessy. We released four tracks and because it was one minute less or something, it didn't qualify for the Grammy entry," he explained.
According to the official guidelines from the Recording Academy's Awards Department, recordings must include at least five different tracks and have a total playing time of 15 minutes, or a total length of at least 30 minutes with no minimum track requirement in order to be considered an album. The overall duration of Aadujeevitham's original motion picture soundtrack is only 14 minutes.
Rahman also mentioned that he did not submit the soundtracks for Ponniyin Selvan for Grammy consideration. "I don't think I put PS 1 and PS 2 on the list last year. I don't think we entered that one. It all depends on things coming together," he added.
Recently, Rahman was honoured with the National Award for Best Music Director (Background Music) for his work on Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 (2022). He received the award from President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Rahman's most recent project was Dhanush's second directorial venture, Raayan. He is currently working on several upcoming films, including Chhaava, Thug Life, Genie, Gandhi Talks, and more. Additionally, he is collaborating with Scam 1992 director Hansal Mehta on an upcoming series titled Gandhi.
