Prithviraj Sukumaran announced through an X post that production on his upcoming Lucifer sequel Empuraan has been completed and that it will take place next in Thiruvananthapuram. Antony Perumbavoor's banner Aashirvad Cinemas, which backs the film alongside Lyca Productions, shared the post from the actor-director on X (formerly Twitter). Mohanlal reprises his role as Khureshi-Ab'raam, also known as Stephen Nedumpally, in the Lucifer sequel, billed as Malayalam cinema's most expensive feature film. Prithviraj, Manju Warrier, Indrajith Sukumaran, and Tovino Thomas also return for the sequel. As is Murali Gopy, the screenwriter of the first part.

The technical team for Empuraan includes cinematographer Sujith Vaassudev and music director Deepak Dev, who both worked in the 2019 Mohanlal starrer.

Earlier this year, the makers had to stall the film's Gujarat schedule abruptly because of torrential rains in the state. Empuraan has also been extensively shot across Kerala, Chennai, Ladakh, the UK, and the US.
