Director Amal Neerad's Bougainvillea is set to have its digital premiere on December 13 on Sony LIV. Upon its theatrical response in October this year, the film met with mixed reviews from the critics, but still ended up as a profitable affair for the makers.
Based on Lajo Jose's novel Ruthinte Lokam, Bougainvillea is a psychological thriller centered around a woman with memory issues and her links with some missing girls. Lajo himself adapted the screenplay along with director Amal, while additional dialogues were penned by R J Murugan.
Bougainvillea marked the comeback of actor Jyothirmayi, who is also the director's wife. Her performance as the protagonist Reethu, who suffers from retrograde amnesia, was lauded by many. Along with her, the film starred Kunchacko Boban, Fahadh Faasil, Veena Nandakumar, Srinda and Sharaf U Dheen in key roles.
Jyothirmayi and Kunchacko Boban also teamed up to produce the film under the banners of Amal Neerad Productions and Udaya Pictures, respectively.
