Basil Joseph's Ponman will hit screens on February 6, 2025, announced the makers on Saturdy. The release date was announced with a new poster featuring Basil, Anand Manmadhan, Deepak Parambol, and another actor. The film marks the directorial debut of seasoned production designer Jothish Shankar, noted for his work in films like Kumbalangi Nigts, Android Kunjappan Ver 5.25 and Nna Thaan Case Kodu.
Ponman is an adaptation of the 2020 novel Nalanchu Cheruppakar by GR Indugopan, who has also jointly penned the screenplay with Minnal Murali co-writer Justin Mathew. In a recent conversation with us, Basil expressed confidence in the project, saying, "It's a very rooted, original idea with an unusual story and characters."
The film also stars Aavesham-fame Sajin Gopu and Lijomol Jose in significant roles. The technical crew includes cinematographer Sanu John Varughese, editor Nidhin Raj Arol and music director Justin Varghese. It is produced by Ajith Vinayaka Films.
Meanwhile, Basil's latest release Sookshmadarshini is continuing its successful run in theatres. Also starring Nazriya, the film is a suspense thriller with a good dose of humour. Basil also has Pravin Koodu Shappu, co-starring Soubin Shahir, and Marana Mass, produced by Tovino Thomas, in his lineup.
