A family from Kottayam district named Kunjaman Illam is posing a legal issue over the release of Mammootty's next film Bramayugam. In their petition filed at the Kerala High Court, Kunjaman Illam argued that the makers have used a part of their family name in the film and that the witchcraft portions show them in a bad light. The family also argued that the presence of a star like Mammootty is too much of a social influence to ignore.

The makers of the film are yet to respond to the allegations. Written and directed by Bhoothakalam-fame Rahul Sadasivan, Bramayugam is set to release in theatres this Thursday. It remains to be seen whether the latest developments will impact the release of the film.
