Veteran Malayalam filmmaker Mohan passes away

Mohan has directed over twenty films, including Shalini Ente Koottukari (1978), Mukham (1990) and Pakshe (1994)

Veteran filmmaker Mohan passed away on Tuesday at the age of 76 in a private hospital in Kochi.

Mohan directed over twenty films, with notable works including Shalini Ente Koottukari (1978), Idavela (1982), Rachana (1983), Oru Katha Oru Nunnakkatha (1986), Isabella (1988), Mukham (1990) and Pakshe (1994). He made his directorial debut in 1978 with Vadaka Veedu, and his final film as director was Angene Oru Avadhikkalathu (1999), headlined by Sreenivasan and Samyuktha Varma. He also scripted five of his own directorials and wrote the story for two films, including P G Viswambharan's Ithile Iniyum Varu (1986).

Last year, Mohan collapsed on stage after suffering a brain haemorrhage while attending the screening of a documentary in Thiruvananthapuram. The director was a prominent figure during the 1980s and frequently collaborated with revered writers such as the late Padmarajan and John Paul.

Born in Irinjalakuda, Mohan was married to actress Anupama, one of the lead actors in his film Randu Penkuttikal (1978). The couple has two sons, Purandar Mohan and Upendhar Mohan.
