On Friday, the makers of this year's blockbuster Premalu announced that the film will be getting a sequel. Announced by the makers with a title poster, Premalu 2 is scheduled for a 2025 release.

Premalu, directed by Girish AD, was released on February 9 and went on to become a huge success following rave reviews from both critics and general audiences. Subsequently, the film, headlined by Naslen and Mamitha Baiju, had its dubbed versions hit screens in Telugu states and Tamil Nadu, which also ran successfully. Premalu 2 will also have Telugu and Tamil versions. The 2024 original is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. 

Premalu is now the biggest blockbuster in the romantic comedy genre in Malayalam, as claimed by the makers. Alongside the announcement of the sequel on social media, the makers have also shared the posters in Tamil and Telugu, mentioning the distributors Red Giant Movies and Showing Business, respectively.

Girish AD will be returning to the director's chair for Premalu 2, with his co-writer Kiran Josey also returning to pen the film. It is produced by Dileesh Pothan, Fahadh Faasil, and Syam Pushkaran under the banner of Bhavana Studios, in association with Fahadh Faasil and Friends. The rest of the cast and crew of Premalu are also expected to join the next installment.
