In an earlier conversation with us, Sajas called Vela an "emotion-centric crime drama" inspired by actual events. The film is shot by Suresh Rajan and edited by Mahesh Bhuvanend. Its music is handled by Tamil composer Sam CS, whose last Malayalam outing was the blockbuster RDX.

S George is producing Vela under the banner of Cyn-Cyl Celluloid, and it will be presented by Dulquer Salmaan's Wayfarer Films.
