Known Malayalam film producer Parayarukandi Vettath Gangadharan died on Friday at a private hospital in Kozhikode, Kerala. He was 80.

Gangadharan was undergoing treatment at the hospital for age-related sickness. Born in 1943, during his lifetime, the late producer backed 22 Malayalam films under the banner Grihalakshmi Films. He has also bagged National Film Awards twice along with five Kerala State Film Awards.

His 1996 film Kaanaakkinaavu, starring Mukesh and Murali, bagged the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration, while his 2001 Shantham won the Best Feature Film Award along with National Best Supporting Actress Award for KPAC Lalitha.

During his time, Gangadharan held office positions as founding president at International Film Producers Association, chairman of Kerala State Film Development Corporation, president of Film Federation of India, South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce and Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce.

Gangadharan is survived by his wife PV Sherien and children Shenuga Jaythilak, Shegna Vigil and Sherga Sandeep. His last rites are scheduled to take place on Saturday.
