While the Malayalam-disaster-drama-film 2018 has been running in theatres, an unfortunate event has happened in Kerala's Malappuram district. A private tourist boat capsized near the Ottumpuram Thooval Theeram beach in Tanur, killing 22 people. At such a heart-wreck juncture, the producers of 2018 announced 1 lakh compensation to the families of the deceased. 

According to rescue workers, the boat carrying around 40 tourists overturned during a joyride in the late evening of Sunday, and overloading is believed to have caused the accident. The Kerala government on Monday announced a judicial probe into the matter and decided to give a compensation of Rs ten lakh to the kin of the deceased.

Meanwhile, 2018 is Produced by Venu Kunnappilly, CK Padmakumar, and Anto Joseph. The film is based on the flash floods that occurred in Kerala, which claimed many lives. The film is directed by Jude Anthony Joseph and stars an ensemble cast including Tovino Thomas, Kunchakon Boban and  Asif Ali, among others.
