Veteran Malayalam producer Achani Ravi passes away

The producer was known for backing many award-winning films

Veteran producer and businessman K Ravindranathan Nair, popularly known as Achani Ravi, died on Saturday. He was 90. 

He was born in Kollam in 1932. Achani Ravi was known for backing many award-winning films, including Kanchana Sita, Thampu, Kummatty, Esthappan, Pokkuveyil, Elippathayam, Manju, Mukhamukham, Anantaram, and Vidheyan. He launched his production banner General Pictures, in 1967. His maiden production was Anweshichu Kandethiyilla, directed by P Bhaskaran. He rose to fame after he produced a film titled Achani, directed by A Vincent, in 1973. From then on, he was known as Achani Ravi. He also frequently associated with veteran filmmakers like Aravindan and Adoor Gopalakrishnan.

He produced 14 films for which he received 18 awards. He was the recipient of many National and State Film Awards. In 2008, Ravi was honored with JC Daniel Award by the Kerala State Government for his immense contribution to Malayalam cinema. Ravi is survived by his three children Prathap, Preetha, and Prakash.
