The first look of Malaikottai Vaaliban, the upcoming film starring Mohanlal and directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, was released on Friday. The poster features Mohanlal fiercely pulling the dadung rope. His looks and attire hint that Malaikottai Vaaliban will be a period film.

Sharing the first look poster, Mohanlal wrote, "And now, the wait has a face! Presenting to you the First Look of Malaikottai Vaaliban! Keep cheering us on our journey to bring this movie to life." Malaikottai Vaaliban is scripted by PS Rafeeque, who previously collaborated with Lijo in Nayakan (2010) and Amen (2013). The film has cinematographer Madhu Neelakandan, editor Deepu Joseph and music director Prashanth Pillai. It is backed by John & Mary Creative, Amen Movie Monastery, Century Films, and Max Lab.

Malaikottai Vaaliban marks Mohanlal's first collaboration with the director Lijo. As both personalities are phenomenal in their respective fields, the collaboration makes the film one of the most ambitious projects among the recent Malayalam films. Speculations are rife that, in the film, Mohanlal will be playing the role of a wrestler from the pre-Independence era. Meanwhile, the team recently wrapped 75 days of schedule in Rajasthan, and the following schedule, planned in Chennai, will be commencing in May. The film also features Manikandan Achari, Danish Sait, Hareesh Peradi, and Sonalee Kulkarni.
