The shooting of Empuraan, the upcoming sequel to the 2019 film Lucifer, is expected to begin mostly in the second half of 2023, the film's director Prithviraj Sukumaran revealed on Monday.

Speaking at the Kaapa press meet, Prithviraj said that many teams are doing the location recce at different places for the Mohanlal-starrer. "We have to decide where to shoot based on the climatic conditions. So we are planning to start filming in the mid of 2023 or maximum in the second half of next year," he added.

Prithviraj made his directorial debut with Lucifer in 2019. Three months after the release, Mohanlal and Prithviraj announced the sequel titled Empuraan. The sequel will also be produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the Aashirvad Cinemas banner. Meanwhile, Prithviraj's next Kaapa will hit the theatres on December 22.
