Years after a controversy that cast a shadow over their film Halli Meshtru, actress Bindiya has revisited the episode involving her co-star Ravichandran, offering an emotional apology and reflecting on what she now describes as a painful misunderstanding. Speaking in an interview with Raghu Ram’s YouTube channel, the Mumbai-based actor recalled her early days in South Indian cinema and the events that led to a legal battle with the Kannada star.
Bindiya, who played Ravichandran’s leading lady in Halli Meshtru, said she was unfamiliar with the Kannada film industry when she was approached for the project. Following the success of her Hindi film Jaan Tere Naam, Ravichandran and his team reportedly travelled to Mumbai while searching for a heroine for the film. Despite language barriers and limited knowledge of the industry, she accepted the role.
The film went on to receive positive response, with audiences appreciating the pairing of Ravichandran and Bindiya. However, what began as a successful professional collaboration soon became overshadowed by controversy after serious allegations against Ravichandran surfaced in the media.
According to Bindiya, the situation spiralled after a magazine report carried statements that, she says, did not accurately reflect what she had intended to convey. The reports led to widespread attention and eventually prompted Ravichandran to file a defamation case, arguing that the allegations were false and had harmed his reputation.
Looking back, Bindiya described the episode as one of the most difficult phases of her life. She said the matter escalated far beyond her expectations and ended up in court, where she eventually apologised to the actor.
“I said one thing, but what appeared in the magazine was different,” Bindiya said, admitting that she lacked the maturity then to fully understand the consequences of the situation. “I was very young and did not handle things wisely.”
She further acknowledged that the case concluded in Ravichandran’s favour and was later withdrawn after the matter was settled. Bindiya admitted there was no evidence to support the allegations and said the controversy created an unfair perception of her co-star.
Growing emotional during the interview, she said that seeing a star of Ravichandran’s stature appear in court remained painful for her. “Ravi sir did nothing wrong,” she said tearfully, while extending a public apology once again.
Bindiya also expressed hope of reconnecting professionally with the actor someday, saying she would gladly work in his films again, even without remuneration, if given the opportunity.
