For decades, he set stages on fire with his powerful drum beats, performing alongside some of the biggest names in the Kannada music industry. Today, renowned drummer Deva, popularly known as Kannada’s Shivamani, is facing the toughest battle of his life.
Deva, who has played drums for films composed by leading music directors and entertained audiences through countless live concerts, is currently struggling with severe health and financial challenges. Due to complications from gangrene, doctors recently had to amputate one of his legs. His family says his condition remains critical, and ongoing treatment costs have pushed them into serious financial hardship.
The veteran musician has contributed to films such as 5 Idiots and Preethi Nee Heengyaake and is known for popular songs including 'Baninda Jaari', 'Vidhi Aata Vaadida', and 'Preethi Nee Heegeke'. Over the years, he has shared stages with celebrated composers like Hamsalekha and Sadhu Kokila, and has even worked alongside legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja.
Writer and filmmaker Ganesh Kasaragod recently highlighted Deva’s plight, revealing that the musician has not only lost his right leg but has also suffered injuries to his hip, while his other leg is reportedly at risk.
Despite being bedridden and in immense pain, Deva continues to face his situation with remarkable courage. His family is now appealing to music lovers, fans, and the public for financial support to help cover his medical expenses and secure his future.
A man who spent his life creating rhythm and joy for others now needs the support of the very community he inspired. For many in Karnataka’s music fraternity, this is a moment to stand beside one of their own.
