The teaser of Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, starring Yash, has sparked debate across social media platforms ever since its release a few days ago. While the film has generated strong buzz for its dark tone and bold visuals, a section of viewers has raised concerns over what they describe as "objectionable content" in the teaser.

Several users have taken to social platforms claiming that intimate visuals showcased in the teaser are inappropriate and not suitable for family viewing. Concerns have also been expressed about the possible impact such imagery could have on children. The criticism gradually intensified, with director Geetu Mohandas and Yash facing sharp reactions online.

For the unversed, the teaser which introduces Yash's character as Raya shows him having sex with a woman next to a cemetery and then entering the burial place with a gun.

Amid this discussion, advocate Lohith Kumar has formally submitted a complaint to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Speaking to media representatives, Lohith Kumar stated that based on the visuals presented in the teaser, the film appears unsuitable for family audiences.

He pointed out that while films receiving an ‘A’ certificate in theatres restrict children from viewing them, teasers released on digital platforms like YouTube do not currently fall under any strict regulatory framework. "The absence of clear guidelines for teasers on social media is a serious concern," he said, adding that unrestricted access allows children to view content that may not be age-appropriate.

The advocate further urged the CBFC to introduce clear and defined guidelines for film teasers, similar to theatrical certification norms, to ensure responsible presentation on public platforms.

Toxic, headlined by Yash, is positioned as a gritty and intense cinematic experience, and the teaser reflects a world driven by chaos, violence, and moral conflict. While the makers have not yet responded to the complaint, the issue has reopened conversations around creative freedom, responsibility, and regulation in the age of digital releases.

It features an ensemble cast including Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, and Tara Sutaria, with Rukmini Vasanth in an important role. The film is jointly produced by Venkat K. Narayana and Yash under their respective banners, KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations. Announced in December 2023, Toxic is scheduled to release in theatres worldwide on March 19, coinciding with the Ugadi festival.
