Earlier today, ZEE5 announced that it would start streaming a Kannada-Tulu film titled Jai from February 06, Friday, onwards. The Tulu version of the film, set against a coastal Karnataka backdrop, is the first in the language to release on the streaming platform. Starring its director Roopesh Shetty himself in a lead role, the film's plot follows a youngster named Satya who wakes up to issues in his community in the Simhabettu village. The awakening urges Satya to fight for his people's welfare. According to ZEE5, the film offers a blend of drama, humour, sociopolitical commentary, and humour.
Besides Roopesh, the film stars Raj Deepak Shetty, Adhvithi Shetty, Aravind Bolar, Devadas Kapikad, Naveen D Padil, and Bhojaraj Vamanjoor, among other regional performers. Further, it marks Suniel Shetty's Tulu cinema debut.
Speaking about the film, director Roopesh said, "Jai comes from a very personal space. It is rooted in the soil, language, humour, and anger of coastal Karnataka. We made this film for people who see themselves on screen, their villages, their politics, their everyday struggles. Bringing Jai to ZEE5 in both Kannada and Tulu feels like the story has finally found the reach it deserves, especially for Tulu audiences who rarely see their language represented on major platforms."
Meanwhile, Suniel Shetty stated, "When I agreed to be part of Jai, it wasn’t about the scale or the screen time. It was about the honesty of the film. Tulu cinema carries a rawness and cultural pride that is rarely seen nationally. I am glad that Jai will now reach a wider audience through ZEE5, this is how regional voices truly travel beyond borders."
