Yash’s Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups has made a quick impact at the box office. The Geetu Mohandas-directed Yash-starrer has crossed the ₹250 crore mark worldwide within just four days of its release, with its reported worldwide gross already estimated at around ₹254.75 crore. On the face of it, the figure looks impressive. But the larger story is lurking beneath the headline. While Toxic has raced past the ₹250 crore mark, its Day 4 figures suggest that the film’s journey from here may not be as straightforward as its opening indicated.
The Yash-led film is estimated to have earned around ₹24.50 crore net in India on Day 4, taking its reported India net collection to approximately ₹190.45 crore. Its estimated India gross stands at around ₹227.50 crore, while the overseas gross is said to be approximately ₹27.25 crore. Taken together, the numbers are undoubtedly strong. However, there is an important distinction to be made: crossing ₹250 crore worldwide within four days is one thing, but maintaining that pace over the following days is an entirely different challenge.
The Day 4 dip could indicate that the initial rush driven by Yash’s ardent fan base, advance bookings and pre-release hype is beginning to settle. That, in turn, could provide a clearer picture of how the film is performing among the wider audience. The next few days will therefore be crucial in determining whether Toxic can sustain the interest generated during its opening phase.
Following the global success of the KGF franchise, expectations surrounding Yash’s next release were always going to be enormous. Toxic has clearly benefited from that anticipation, while its pan-Indian release has allowed the film to reach audiences across multiple regions. Its overseas performance is particularly interesting, as it suggests that Yash’s reach continues to expand beyond the markets that became familiar with him through KGF.
The film produced by KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations also boasts a sizeable ensemble cast, with Yash leading alongside Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth and Tara Sutaria, while Akshay Oberoi and Sudev Nair add further weight to the supporting cast.
However, Toxic has received a mixed response. While Yash’s screen presence, charisma and wider appeal have drawn praise, the film’s plot, characterisation and pacing have attracted criticism. That response could become increasingly important as the initial buzz settles. Strong word of mouth can help a film maintain its momentum, whereas a film driven largely by curiosity and opening-day excitement can see collections soften once that buzz fades.
Another factor worth watching is the film’s multilingual strategy. Toxic has been released in multiple languages as part of its effort to reach a wider pan-Indian audience. It is also worth establishing whether the film has received a full English-language theatrical release, rather than simply being screened with English subtitles. If an English version has indeed been released theatrically, it would further underline the makers’ ambition to take Yash’s latest film to international audiences.
For now, Toxic has made a strong start. The real test begins after Day 4: can Yash’s latest film maintain its momentum and turn its strong opening into a sustained theatrical run?
₹250 crore in four days is impressive. What Toxic earns from here will tell the bigger story.
