The Yash-starrer Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups has received an 18+ certificate in Britain, with the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) flagging the film for strong violence, sexual content and bloody imagery.
The BBFC has reportedly given the film the highest rating in the categories of violence and sex, warning viewers about graphic violence, bloodshed and brutal fight sequences. The film has also received high ratings for threat, drugs and strong language.
The classification report lists the film’s runtime as 191 minutes and 41 seconds. Although Toxic is shot in Kannada and English, the BBFC listing has reportedly classified it as a Tamil-language film.
The film, directed by Geetu Mohandas, is set against the backdrop of Goa’s drug underworld and follows the rise and fall of a powerful crime figure.
The 18+ rating has added another talking point ahead of the film’s worldwide release. While the British classification is specific to the UK, the strong content warning gives international audiences an indication of the film’s tone.
Toxic is produced by KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations. Interestingly, it has reportedly received a higher classification in Britain than the recent Dhurandhar films, adding further curiosity around what Yash and Geetu Mohandas have created. The film's music by Vishal Mishra and RAvi Basrur's background score with RAjeev Ravi's cinematography also features Yash in a double role as father and son, Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Rukmini Vasanth, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi, Sudev Nair, and Balaji Manohar among others.
