Singer and composer Manasa Holla set a milestone by performing 87 songs nonstop for 12 hours, honouring the legendary playback singer S. Janaki. The concert, Manasagana Janakidhyana, was held at the Prestige Khoday Centre for Performing Arts in Konanakunte, drawing an audience of around 3,000 music enthusiasts and dignitaries.
The event, held recently from dawn to dusk, was attended by Vinay Guruji, Hema Prasad, Stephen Prayag, and advocate Narayanaswamy. Manasa was accompanied by a 25-member orchestra led by tabla maestro Venugopal Raj, delivering intricate rhythms that sustained the energy of the marathon performance.
Personalities such as lyricist V Nagendra Prasad, composer V. Manohar, and singer Chandrika Gururaj attended, witnessing the dedication of the artist.
For Manasa, this performance was a heartfelt homage to S Janaki, whose songs have inspired her musical journey. A lifelong devotee of music, she described singing as her lifeblood, channeling Janaki’s spirit in every note and sustaining her focus throughout the twelve-hour concert.
Several popular singers, including Rajesh Krishnan, Hemant, Ajay Warrior, Srinivas, Ramo, Mohan Krishna, and Uday Ankola, joined her on stage for duets. Mumbai-based percussionist Sivamani delivered a 20-minute drum solo, while Manasa’s rendition of Shiva Shiva Ennada from Hemavathi earned a standing ovation.
The event highlighted Manasa Holla’s remarkable career. With over 500 songs to her credit and music composed for ten films, she continues to make her mark with a melodious voice, as she bridged generations of music, paying tribute to Janaki’s legacy with grace.
