Actor and politician Ramya has praised Karnataka’s decision to cap movie ticket prices at ₹200, calling it a good move to support the Kannada film industry. In a post on social media, she expressed that this step will help make cinema more accessible and bring Kannada moviegoers back to the theatres. She highlighted how the steep costs of movie tickets, often reaching ₹1000, have deterred people from enjoying films. Ramya believes the price cap will encourage audiences to return to the theatre, benefiting the local film industry.

The Karnataka Government's recent budget announcement included the ticket price cap of ₹200 for all theatres, including multiplexes. In addition to this, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s Congress-led government granted industry status to the cinema sector, ensuring that it receives the benefits and facilities extended under the industry policy.

She also lauded the Karnataka government’s plan to create a state-run OTT platform to promote Kannada cinema, calling it a necessary step to combat the bias towards other languages on existing streaming services. Ramya wrote, “OTT platforms tend to favour other languages, leaving Kannada films under-represented. A state-run platform is a great initiative!”

Other key announcements include plans to develop a multiplex cinema complex in Nandini Layout, Bengaluru, under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, and a ₹3 crore project to preserve Kannada films by creating a digital and non-digital repository of them for future generations. Additionally, the government has allocated 150 acres of land for the creation of an international film city in Mysuru, with an investment of ₹500 crore under the PPP model. These measures reflect the government’s commitment to the growth and preservation of the Kannada film industry.
