NM Suresh, President, The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) recently met with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to discuss the need for a cap on movie ticket prices in theatres and multiplexes throughout Karnataka. They proposed a guideline to limit ticket prices to ₹200, arguing that current high costs are a burden for families.

During the meeting, the KFCC delegation presented a memorandum to the Chief Minister, requesting clear guidance from the government that no theatre, including multiplexes, should charge more than ₹200 for any movie ticket in the state.

In a statement to ANI, NM Suresh expressed concern over exorbitant ticket prices, noting that some multiplexes charge between ₹1,000 and ₹2,000 for certain films. He highlighted that a family outing to the movies can easily cost upwards of ₹10,000. This initiative aims to make cinemas more accessible for families. The Chief Minister has responded on a positive noted, and has assured that guidelines will be provided within 10 days, similar to regulations in neighbouring states like Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Suresh also poinited the importance of reserving more screens in multiplexes for Kannada films, ensuring that local movies receive fair representation alongside big-budget releases in other languages.
