Iruve is a 17-minute Kannada short film written and directed by Rajesh Ramaswamy, fondly known as Ramsam. An ad filmmaker and the founder of The Script Room in Bangalore, Ramsam is famous for the iconic tagline “Yella OK Cool Drink Yaake” featuring Upendra from two decades ago. Speaking about Iruve, he shares, “I’ve always been deeply influenced by RK Narayan’s Malgudi Days and Shankar Nag’s adaptations. The simple storytelling, relatable characters, and keen observations of everyday life have inspired me to write about ordinary people and their experiences.”

Set in Jayanagar, Iruve tells the story of 70-year-old Govindiah, who faces a red ant infestation in his home. He hires a pest controller named Kumara, setting off a slice-of-life drama that unfolds with quirky characters and situational comedy.

The film features veteran actor Dattanna and character actor Mahantesh, known for his comedic timing, alongside Prakash Thuminad, Rohit Srinath, Sonu Venugopal, and Anirudh Acharya. Although in the Kannada language, its universal themes are expected to connect with a broader audience.

This film marks the debut production of The Script Room, which aims to spotlight local talent and discover emerging stars. While Navin Muraleedharan has composed the background music. cinematographer Sahadev Kelvadi (Gantumoote and Kenda) and editor Surya Vasishta from Asthu Studios went beyond their usual roles, contributing their directorial skills. Chaithra Puthraya and her team handled production design, while Chris managed live sound recording.
