Antha, the 1981 super hit film, is making a comeback with advanced technology and will be re-released on May 26, to celebrate Rebel Star Ambareesh’s 71st birth anniversary (May 29). “This classic should have been directed by someone else, but it came to me through journalist MB Singh,” says producer Venugopal, who bankrolled the film along with  Maruthi, and KCN Chandrasekhar. It was later remade in Tamil and Hindi.

“The film has been remastered and converted from 35 mm to 70 mm, with revamped sound and colouring to suit the modern audience,” shares producer Venugopal. Antha presented by Jayanna Films will be re-released in over 70 theatres across Karnataka, and director Rajendra Singh Babu expresses confidence in its reception.

“The film exceeded all expectations and became a phenomenal success during the time of its release. According to my knowledge, countless films have drawn inspiration from this masterpiece. It had gained popularity as a pan-India movie, with high demand in various languages. The true hero of the film, in my opinion, is the story itself. A good story always guarantees success,” says the director.

The film features Lakshmi as the heroine and also stars Vajramuni, Sundarkrishna Aras, Musuri Krishnamurthy, and Prabhakar, among others. Filmed entirely in Mysore, the film has eighteen magnificent sets.
