Director Samartha: Kaadumale the first Indian film to explore brain scamming

The film introduces seven characters who traverse the thin line between illusion and reality

A film woven with elements of spirituality and science, Kaadumale, set to hit theatres on January 31, introduces seven characters who traverse the thin line between illusion and reality. Directed by Samartha and produced by Cosmos Movies, this film is said to be the first-ever attempt at brain scamming in Indian cinema.

Speaking about this unique concept, Samartha explains, “For a movie to succeed, it must have a strong story, and we’ve chosen just such a story for Kaadumale. Life is filled with unanswered questions, and this film explores one of them. The number seven plays a significant role in existence—seven continents, seven seas, seven sounds, seven days in a week. Our film’s subtitle, ‘Brain Scamming,’ refers to the state of not understanding the difference between illusion and reality. The forest is an illusion, while rain is real.”

Drawing inspiration from the mysterious Mathikettan forest near Kodaikanal, Samartha has crafted this film as an experience. Lead actor Harshan, making his debut as Artha, shares that his character is deeply connected to both spirituality and science, which required intense preparation for him. “Shooting in the dense forest came with challenges, but it also added authenticity. This is the first such attempt in Kannada cinema, and I am grateful to be part of it.”

With cinematography by Raju NM and music by Maharaja, Kaadumale also features Sangeetha, veteran actor Vijayalakshmi, Karthik, Gilli Manju, and Gautham.
