Netflix's hit Korean thriller series Squid Game has dropped its much-anticipated third season on Friday. As revealed earlier, the protagonist of the show and the game's savior Gi-hun is alive and well after a failed rebellion inside the games and the loss of his most-trusted ally.

The first six minutes of the series has been shared by the streamer and it shows Gi-Hun being brought back into the game in a coffin, but as soon as he wakes up, he cries in agony over what had transpired around him and the weight of its effects that he would most likely face in the rest of the game. The video also hints at a mysterious squad navigating an island in search of answers related to the players’ unexplained disappearances.

Netflix has dropped all the six episodes from the latest and final season with each episode spanning almost an hour. As per the plotline, Squid Game season 3 "thrusts Gi-hun (Player 456) back into the brutal heart of the games, determined to dismantle them once and for all. Still haunted by the betrayal and loss of his closest ally, Jung-bae (Player 390), Gi-hun faces new perils — including the Front Man, who shockingly infiltrated their rebellion disguised as Player 001."

Season 3 also stars Lee Byung-hun, Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Wi Ha-jun, Park Gyu-young, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Jo Yu-ri, Chae Kuk-hee, Lee David, Roh Jae-won, and Jun Suk-ho, with special appearance by Park Hee-soon.

With the series ending with the currently-released season, fans can expect thrilling episodes with possibly mind-boggling twists.

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who made history at the 74th Primetime Emmys, becoming the first Asian to win Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series, helms the series as director, writer, and producer. Speaking about the new season, he said, "For Front Man, sending Gi-hun back to the game — rather than killing him — makes sense. He wants Gi-hun to truly feel the consequences of his actions and lose his remaining faith in humanity."

Squid Game season 2 was released in December 26 to a record viewership across the world. Gi-hun, who won the game in the first season was determined to stop the games for which he had to get back into the same deadly games. The twist was that each game had been changed and renewed.

Produced by Firstman Studio, executive producers include Hwang and Kim Ji-yeon.
