With the release of the third and final season of the popular Korean series Squid Game slated for June 27, makers of the series unveiled the trailer on Sunday as the streamer Netflix revealed its TUDUM 2025 slate.
The trailer begins with the 'red light' 'green light' game and leads to more merciless games with stricter rules. Lines such as Gi-hun's 'Why did you leave me alive?' and Front Man's 'Do you still have faith in humans?' point to the incidents that attempt to shatter the basic humane life philosophy carried by Gi-hun. It is expected the series and season will end on a tragic note.
According to the plotline, Squid Game season 3 "thrusts Gi-hun (Player 456) back into the brutal heart of the games, determined to dismantle them once and for all. Still haunted by the betrayal and loss of his closest ally, Jung-bae (Player 390), Gi-hun faces new perils — including the Front Man, who shockingly infiltrated their rebellion disguised as Player 001."
In addition to Lee Jung-jae, season 3 also stars Lee Byung-hun, Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Wi Ha-jun, Park Gyu-young, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Jo Yu-ri, Chae Kuk-hee, Lee David, Roh Jae-won, and Jun Suk-ho, with a special appearance by Park Hee-soon.
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who made history at the 74th Primetime Emmys, becoming the first Asian to win Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series, once again helms the series as director, writer, and producer.
Squid Game season 2 was released on December 26 to a record viewership across the world. Gi-hun, who won the game in the first season was determined to stop the games for which he had to get back into the same deadly games. The twist was that each game had been changed and renewed.
Produced by Firstman Studio, executive producers include Hwang and Kim Ji-yeon.
