The makers of The Boy and the Heron, the upcoming film by director Hayao Miyazaki, released the teaser. The film is attached to Studio Ghibli. The Boy and the Heron will have a theatrical release on December 8.

Following its theatrical run in Japan, the film will be opening the Toronto International Film Festival.

The trailer opens with a young boy running hurriedly for his mothe. We are then introduced to the titular heron, and few scenes of surrealism. The official synopsis of the film reads, “A young boy names Mahito longing for his mother ventures into a world shared by the living and the dead. There, death comes to an end, and life finds a new beginning. A semi-autobiographical fantasy about life, death and creation, in tribute to friendship, from the mind of Hayao Miyazaki.”

The Boy and the Heron released in Japan as Kimitachi wa Di Ikiruka, which means How Do You Live? While Miyazaki has written the story, it is backed by Toshio Suzuki. Joe Hisaishi has scored the music.
