Sean Penn Joins Ukrainian War Film

The film will tell the story of the war in Ukraine through the perspectives of various animals caught up in the conflict

Oscar-Winning actor Sean Penn, known for being vocal about his support for Ukraine, has signed to lead the Ukranian drama film War Through the Eyes of Animals.

A nine-part anthology, the film is helmed by nine different Ukrainian filmmakers. The film will tell the story of the war in Ukraine through the perspectives of various animals caught up in the conflict. 

The ninth and final segment of War Through the Eyes of Animals will be helmed by Myroslav Slaboshpytskyi, known for The Tribe (2014). Penn will star in this segment as an American sound engineer who rather inadvertently becomes a witness to the Ukrainian war which began on February 24, 2022. The filming for this anthology will begin during the Summer of 2023 in Ukraine and Los Angeles.

Ukrainian production houses SOTA Cinema Group and Kleos Art will produce War Through the Eyes of Animals with Oleg Kokhan and Oleksiy Makukhin serving as producers.  

War Through the Eyes of Animals is set for release in the winter of 2023-2024.
