Apple TV+ announced Carême, an upcoming French drama that will show the story of celebrity chef Antonin Carême. The eight-part series will track the humble beginnings of the chef in Paris to the stardom he achieved in the culinary world.

The series will feature César Award winner Benjamin Voisin in the titular character. The series also stars Jérémie Renier as political genius Charles-Maurice de Talleyrand-Périgord and Lyna Khoudri as Henriette, Carême’s lover.

“Carême is an orphan blessed with god-like culinary talent, who dreams of only one thing: to become the most famous chef in the world and to give letters of nobility to a new art, the Gastronomy. Carême’s ambition attracts the attention of the most Machiavellian man of his time, Charles-Maurice de Talleyrand-Périgord, who has elevated French politics to a fine art. Talleyrand ensnares Carême, who could become a great chef … but must first become a spy for France,” reads the official synopsis of the show.

The series is inspired by the book Cooking for Kings: The Life of Antonin Carême, The First Celebrity Chef by Ian Kelly. It is created by Kelly and Davide Serino with Martin Bourboulon serving as lead director.
