CE Features

Mee Vasantrao, the first Marathi film by Jio Studios, will release in theatres on April 1.

The film is based on the life of Hindustani classical vocalist Vasantrao Deshpande. A musical prodigy, Vasantrao had acted as Lord Krishna at the age of nine in the 1919 silent film Kaliya Mardan, directed by Dadasaheb Phalke.

The actor-singer went on to appear in other films, besides charting a distinguished musical career.

Mee Vasantrao was scheduled to release in 2020 but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It was screened at the Cannes Film Market in 2021 and also played at IFFI.

The film is directed by Nipun Dharmadhikari and stars Rahul Deshpande as Vasantrao.
